Classical Studies Subject Guide

This Subject Guide will assist you in finding sources for your research in the field of Classical Studies.

The major Library of Congress (LC) classifications for Classical Studies are BL 700-820, DE, DF, DG, PA 1-199, PA 3000-3049, and PA 6000-6971. You can browse the shelves in this subject classification, but you should also search more thoroughly in the Library Catalog by subject heading or keyword.

As you begin your research, please keep in mind that spelling variations may exist for your search terms. This is particularly true of proper nouns that have been transliterated from Greek. For example, a search for 'Sophocles' may miss items listed under the variant spelling 'Sophokles.' The same is true of searches on Virgil (Vergil,) Athena (Athene,) Heracles (Herakles,) etc. In these cases, using Boolean operators (AND/OR) during your search may help you locate items that might have otherwise been overlooked.

Remember, if you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact a reference librarian.
